Students studying Mandarin at QUT may choose to enrol in one or two semesters of in-country study. Each in-country semester is of sixteen weeks duration and involves about 300 hours of instruction.
By the end of one year of in-country study, students should have a level of language proficiency and cultural awareness well above that of students who study Mandarin across three years in an Australian University. Upon successful completion of the in-country program, students receive 48 (one semester) or 96 (two semesters) credit points which may be credited as part of an undergraduate or postgraduate degree.
Qingdao University in Shandong Province is one of China's most progressive and dynamic tertiary institutions and the largest university in Shandong Province. The city of Qingdao is a very attractive modern metropolis with a population of some two million.
The in-country units are HECS units. Students who receive Centrelink assistance still have that entitlement during their study in China. Students will be responsible for their own airfares to China and for their living costs in Qingdao.
