QUT has several different exchange agreements with universities in Japan. You can apply to go on exchange after completing at least one year of tertiary study, but it is recommended that you complete at least Japanese 2 before participating in an exchange program to Japan.
You are advised to seek advice on the most appropriate program for your circumstances from either the Coordinator of Japanese or the Exchange Officer in the Study Abroad and Exchange Unit in O Block Podium GP.
You might choose:
- to study in Japan for either one semester or one year and receive full credit for your studies provided prior approval is received from your Course Coordinator.
- a four-week, 12 credit point program - for males and females - which is run at Sonoda Women’s University in December of each year combining 30 hours of language study with cultural experiences, homestay and travel. There are only six places available in this course each year so acceptance is competitive. The program is advertised in Japanese classes at the beginning of Semester 2.
- a four-week, 12 credit point program - for females only - which is run at Mukogawa Women’s University in June-July of each year combining 40 hours of classes on Japanese language, culture and society. Places in this course are limited so acceptance is competitive. The program is advertised in Japanese classes at the beginning of Semester 1.
