Karyn King, Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management) graduate

Karyn King – Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management) graduate

After 13 years working in sales and customer service, Karyn King was looking for a change. QUT helped her achieve it. “My degree helped me change careers to a job that I enjoy in an industry that I find exciting and interesting. I especially enjoy the people aspect of HRM and that I can contribute to people’s satisfaction with their job and the environment they work in.”

“I work on HRM projects focused on the mining industry that include attraction and retention strategies, workforce planning and overcoming skills shortages. I enjoy the support I get from my colleagues, but also the autonomy within my job. I get to use my creative skills in presenting the information I find and making recommendations to clients. And I like the fact that I can actually put the practical content I learnt at uni to use in the real world”

Karyn’s HRM major gave her practical, hands-on experience that allowed her to move into the career of her choice as a Human Resources Research Officer with the Mining Industry Skills Centre.
