Am I an internal or external student?
Students undertaking the flexible delivery mode enroll as an internal student.
Where do I send my forms?
You can send it direct to the Centre of Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies (CPNS) or forward to Student Business Services at Kelvin Grove Campus (the full address is on the PG form).
I don’t have an undergraduate degree, can I still apply for the course?
Applicants without a degree or formal qualifications but with extensive work experience will be considered for Special Entry. Please contact the Centre of Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies (CPNS) on 07 3138 1020 or e-mail cpns@qut.edu.au for an interview with the Subject Area Coordinator.
What happens after I send off my admission form and how long should it take?
Student Business Services (SBS) will refer your application to the Faculty for assessment. Once assessed, the application is returned to SBS for processing. This would normally take up to ten (10) working days.
I have not received any notification of the university receiving my Application for Course Admission (PG form) - who should I contact?

What is the difference between the BS16 Master of Business (Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies) and BS17 Master of Business (Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies) – Advanced?
The BS17 is designed as a Masters course to enable articulation into a PhD program within the university. You can articulate from BS16 into BS17 if you are considering undertaking a PhD.
On-line Enrolment
On-line enrolment (OLE) is available for all commencing and continuing students at QUT.

Do all students have to do the intensive three days at the beginning of the semester?
Yes, it is compulsory. New students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate (internal and flexible delivery mode) will attend the Orientation and Intensive Program over three (3) days. Continuing students will attend the Intensive Program based on their enrolled subjects.
I don’t have reliable Internet computer access. Can I complete the course?
Students who attend on-campus can access QUT computer facilities. Access to the course requires interaction with unit discussion forums and chat rooms. Students who do not attend on-campus should ensure they have reliable and adequate Internet access in order to complete course requirements.
How much time a week does it take to do a unit?
The rule of thumb for an average student is one (1) hour per week for every credit point. Where the units are worth six (6) credit points, you can expect to allow approximately six (6) hours per week. This includes direct contact time in lectures, workshops and in Internet discussion forums.
What should I do if my personal details change?
Submit your new information on QUT Virtual.
Can I add and substitute units?
Yes. Additions and substitutions can be made on QUT Virtual. They must be completed before aforementioned deadline/s.
Can I cancel units?
Yes. Cancellation of units can be made on QUT Virtual. Students should note that academic and financial penalties may also apply to withdrawal of units. Please refer to the University's Unit additions and withdrawal dates at: http://www.studentservices.qut.edu.au/enrol/change/index.jsp
Can I change my attendance mode?
No. The courses are only internal. Remember, flexible delivery students will still enroll as ‘internal’ students.
How do I apply for leave of absence?
Students should submit a Leave of Absence/Course Cancellation (L) Form. L Forms may be downloaded from a student's online enrolment portal on QUT Virtual. Where possible, supporting documentation should accompany the application; e.g., a medical certificate, or a supporting letter from your employer.
All postgraduate Leave of Absence is subject to approval and students will be notified of the outcome of their application in due course. Due to visa restrictions, international students are not normally permitted to take leave and must seek advice from one of the University's Student Centres: http://www.studentservices.qut.edu.au/enrol/interrupt/index.jsp
Can I take leave of absence in the first semester of study?
No. University policy states that postgraduate students should complete at least one semester or teaching period of study before taking leave of absence.
How do I cancel my enrolment in the course?

How do I re-apply for entry (for students who have taken a break from their studies other than approved leave of absence)?
At the end of your period of leave QUT will send you an email notifying you that you need to re-enrol. You re-enrol via the Online Enrolment portlet accessed from the Student Services tab in QUT Virtual.
If you do not re-enrol, your leave of absence is terminated and your enrolment status is altered to discontinued.
Assessment
When will examination timetables be released?
For school-based exams (i.e., all GSN-coded units) no later than two (2) weeks prior to exam commencement: http://www.bgsb.qut.edu.au/study/current/timetables/mbatimetables.jsp
Can I defer an examination?
Yes. You must complete the Application for Deferred Examination (DEF) Form. Applications should include supporting documentation. The DEF form can be obtained from the following web site http://www.studentservices.qut.edu.au/assess/exams/defer.jsp
Am I able to apply for special consideration on medical grounds?
Yes. You must complete the Application for Special Consideration (SPE) Form. The accompanying Medical Certificate should include the following:
- date when practitioner examined student;
- nature, severity and duration of complaint;
- practitioner’s opinion of the effect of the complaint on student’s ability to perform.
Can I sit an examination early?
Students are able to sit an examination early only in exceptional circumstances. Request should be submitted in writing with supporting documentation to the Brisbane Graduate School of Business.
Review of Grades
What is the process for reviewing grades?
Step 1: Student should contact the lecturer in the first instance to seek clarification.
Step 2: If still dissatisfied student should submit an Application for Review of Academic Ruling (RA) Form within 14 days of release of results. The RA Form can be downloaded from:

Graduation
When will graduations be held?
Ceremonies are held in February, April/May and September/October each year. Dates are posted on the graduation timetable: http://www.studentservices.qut.edu.au/grad/ceremonies/dates.jsp
Where are they held?
Concert Hall of the Queensland Performing Arts Complex, Southbank, South Brisbane.
What time do ceremonies start?
Ceremonies usually commence at 6:30 pm. Graduands are expected to arrive earlier to robe and register attendance.
When will I receive my invitation?
Invitations are mailed approximately six (6) weeks prior to the ceremony.
I am uncertain about my eligibility to graduate. Who do I contact?

How much does the course cost?
The 2009 fees are $160 per credit point for domestic students.

What forms of assistance are there for students who cannot afford the fees?
- FEE-HELP is an interest free loan scheme similar to HECS-HELP for eligible students (Australian citizens and some permanent residents) enrolled in tuition fee-paying postgraduate non-research courses. In any given semester, a student eligible for FEE-HELP has the option of using the facility to cover the full tuition fee or to cover part of the tuition fee and paying the balance upfront. - Bursaries in Partnership with Industry. Bursaries are available to part-time postgraduate students undertaking the Graduate Certificate in Business (Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies). Selection may be based on a number of criteria including economic need, academic ability, career goals, community activities and interests and other conditions as determined by individual sponsors. Applications for the bursaries will not be considered until after university admission procedures have been completed. How do I get access to a computer password?
If you are a new student, a temporary QUT Access username and password are provided in the top right-hand corner of your “Letter of Offer”. You are required to change this password as soon as you log-in and accept your offer.
If you are a continuing student and have forgotten your password, present your student ID card to the Student Computing Helpdesk at the following location to obtain a new QUT Access Password. Where is the examination timetable located?
Centrally-based exam timetables are available to current students under the Exam Timetable Portlet on QUT Virtual. School-based exams are advised by the unit co-ordinator.
Who do I contact to get a parking permit on GP campus?
Parking is extremely limited at Gardens Point campus. All vehicles are required to display a current parking permit. The permit must be valid for the campus, area, time and vehicle. Parking regulations on campus are enforced by the QUT Act (1998) and parking violations attract fines according to the nature of the offence.
Customers using the Pay & Display car parks obtain a permit from the machines within the car park on the day they park. Permits for all other areas are obtained by completing an application form and submitting the form to the Parking Office by the due date. In general, persons wishing to apply for parking on campus must be able to justify a need to park on campus. Where can I collect my Student ID Card?
Your ID Card can be available as soon as your enrolment has been processed. You will be required to show some photographic proof of identity to obtain a QUT ID Card (Driver's License or Learner's Permit, 18+ Card, Passport, Student Card from another institution etc). If you don't have some photo ID, you will require three other forms of identification, including a letter from QUT addressed to you (Medicare Card, Credit Card, Bank Debit Card, Birth Certificate, etc).
ID Cards are issued at each QUT Campus. The times and locations for ID card issue often vary during at the start of each semester. See our Getting Started site for details:

How do I obtain a replacement ID Card?
Lost or stolen cards are replaced following payment of a $10.00 fee. The fee is paid to any QUT campus cashier (A Block, Gardens Point Campus) and the receipt presented to any ID card issuing centre. Replacement is done on the spot.
If I am studying part-time, am I able to undertake one unit per semester (under-load)?
Yes, subject to approval and provided the course may still be completed within the maximum completion time. Refer to details on time limits and unit under-loads.
