Thursday 15 September 2005
1.45 p.m - 3.30 p.m
Owen J Wordsworth Room, QUT, Gardens Point Campus, Brisbane
Presenter:
Professor Helmut Anheier, UCLA
Professor Helmut Anheier's presentation is motivated by a concern about the subtle crisis of philanthropy. This crisis is not about money and payout rates; it is not even fundamentally one of legitimacy and foundation governance. It is a crisis of impact due to a lack of awareness about the potential which foundations could have. That foundations have done much good in the world is beyond doubt. The key question is not: Do foundations do good? Rather, it is: Do foundations do the best they possibly can in the current environment? To achieve both, a new approach is necessary: creative philanthropy.
