- Worksheet Reviewing your organisation’s income tax exempt charity endorsement from the ATO’s Income Tax Guide to Nonprofit Organisations. Or, to have the ATO post a copy of the guide, ring 1 300 720 092 and quote NAT 7967-11.2004.
- If you are an endorsed charitable institution or fund, make sure that someone in the organisation has read the ATO rulings TR2005/21 and TR2005/22 and completed a self assessment schedule showing how you fall within the definition of a charitable institution or fund (see links to Worksheet and ATO Guide above).

Matthew Turnour
Managing Partner of Neumann & Turnour Lawyers, heading the Commercial Law Division of the practice, which includes services to the voluntary sector. Matthew is frequently called upon to advise high net worth individuals in relation to their giving and charities, clubs and other not for profit organisations on issues such as taxation, legal structure, liability management, board responsibility and meeting procedures. He is pursuing a PhD on the law regulating the not-for-profit sector through The Australian Centre for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies at QUT.
Prof Myles McGregor-Lowndes OAM
Director, The Australian Centre for Philanthropy and Nonprofit Studies, QUT. Myles has advised and held board positions in a large variety of nonprofit organisations over a period of 25 years. He is a consultant to McCullough Robertson Lawyers engaged solely in high level legal and taxation advice to large national and international nonprofit organisations. He is also a member of the ATO Charities Consultative Committee on the introduction of the New Tax System and advisor to the ATO on nonprofit taxation training and education materials.
