Career focus

Underpinning the School of Management is its undergraduate programs in Management and Human Resource Management (HRM), within QUT’s Bachelor of Business. These degrees are closely linked to industry and have high rates of graduate employment, with many graduating students able to command some of the highest starting salaries in the business group.

The School's teaching programs provide students with real skills that translate into highly valued jobs, as demonstrated by the varied and successful career paths our graduates follow. The School of Management also offers postgraduate degrees that provide our students with well recognised credentials to further their options in the job market.

Quality research

Important parts of the teaching program are our postgraduate research courses. These programs include honours, research masters and doctoral degrees (PhD). The School of Management has a reputation as one of Australia’s leading business schools for postgraduate research studies. The resources provided for postgraduate research students are amongst the best in Australian universities.

The quality of teaching within the School of Management is backed by a very strong research culture and close industry linkages with government, private sector and non-profit organisations. In fact, the School’s successes in industry funded research in areas such as business strategy, organisational behaviour, human resource management, culture change, public sector management, and technology and innovation, inform teaching across all our undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The results of our research are used by business organisations to improve their performance, and feature in high quality research publications, both nationally and internationally.

Community involvement

The School engages with the community by participating in a wide range of activities including media commentary, expert advice on boards, training and consultancy. Most staff participate in international and national professional societies, community groups and networks. We also encourage our students to be involved in industry through industry placements and industry assessment in our teaching programs.

As our alumni, graduates of the School of Management also become part of the greater QUT community and are able to benefit from events and networking opportunities made available through QUT.

Internationalisation

For many years now internationalisation has been a major focus of the School of Management. Our academic staff regularly teach and conduct research overseas, and in so doing expand their knowledge of other nations and societies. The School also recognises that international students, in bringing cultural diversity to the classroom, have an enormous impact on the internationalisation of our School and Faculty.
