Career Summary

Louisa Coglan is a Lecturer in the School of Economics and Finance, Queensland University of Technology. She is also Subject Area Coordinator for Economics. Prior to joining QUT in 2006, Louisa worked at the University of Portsmouth, UK, where she was Principal Lecturer in the Department of Economics and Associate Dean of the Business School.

Louisa has an extensive record of innovative teaching and support of student learning developed over the past sixteen years. She is an accredited Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK, and has received learning and teaching awards and external commendations for her work.

Research Interests

Louisa’s research areas include applied policy research, theoretical and technical applications, quantitative and qualitative analysis and baseline performance measurement in health care and fisheries.

Louisa has led the economics component on both regional and national health care research projects in both primary and secondary health care services. Examples of her work include mental health services restructuring, demand characteristics of GP out of hours services and cost-effectiveness of speech language therapy for very young children and the treatment of sciatica.

Louisa’s research also includes the measurement and analysis of economic performance in fisheries. Examples of her research to date include appropriate measures of economic performance in small scale, multi species, multi gear fisheries, factors that contribute to a vessel’s level of efficiency, and implications of heterogeneity in fisher performance for fisheries management.

Louisa has produced a number of journal articles in international referee journals including American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Agricultural and Resource Economics Review, ICES Journal of Marine Science, Marine Policy, Aquatic Living Resources and Fisheries Research.
